Bimodal Accretion Disks: SSD-ADAF Transitions
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that, unlike the results presented previously in the literature, the transition from an outer Shakura-Sunyaev disk (SSD) to an advectiondominated accretion flow (ADAF) is possible for large values of the viscosity parameter α > 0.5. The transition is triggered by thermal instability of a radiation-pressure-supported SSD. The transition radius is close to the central black hole. We confirm our qualitative prediction by actually constructing global bimodal SSD-ADAF solutions. Subject headings: accretion, accretion disks black hole physics hydrodynamics

A Note on Bimodal Accretion Disks
The existence of bimodal disks is investigated. Following a simple argument based on energetic considerations we show that stationary, bimodal accretion disk models in which a Shakura–Sunyaev disk (SSD) at large radii matches an advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) at smaller radii are never possible using the standard slim disk approach, unless some extra energy flux is present. The same ...
متن کاملGlobal Structure of Optically Thin, Magnetically Supported, Two- Temperature, Black Hole Accretion Disks
We present global solutions of optically thin, two-temperature black hole accretion disks incorporating magnetic fields. We assume that the ̟φ-component of the Maxwell stress is proportional to the total pressure, and prescribe the radial dependence of the magnetic flux advection rate in order to complete the set of basic equations. We obtained the magnetically supported (low-β) disk solutions, ...
متن کاملEvaporation of ion - irradiated disks
We calculate the evaporation of a cool accretion disk around a black hole due to the ion-bombardment by an ion supported accretion flow (here ISAF, or optically thin ADAF). As first suggested by Spruit & Deufel (2002), this evaporation takes place in two stages: ion bombardment of the cool disk (Shakura-Sunyaev disk: SSD) produces an intermediate-temperature layer on top of the disk ('warm laye...
متن کاملJet formation in BL Lacertae objects with different accretion modes
We estimate the masses of massive black holes in BL Lac objects from their host galaxy luminosity. The power of jets and central optical ionizing luminosity for a sample of BL Lac objects are derived from their extended radio emission and the narrow-line emission, respectively. The maximal jet power can be extracted from a standard thin accretion disk/spinning black hole is calculated as a func...
متن کاملA Simplified Solution for Advection Dominated Accretion Flows with Outflow
The existence of outflow in the advection dominated accretion flows has been confirmed by both numerical simulations and observations. The outow models for ADAF have been investigated by several groups with a simple self similar solution. But this solution is inaccurate at the inner regions and can not explain the emitted spectrum of the flow; so, it is necessary to obtain a global solution for...
